Milei offers the governors a post-mortem suicide pact
Several seem keen to accept, in the hope that negotiations will lead to just partial dismemberment instead.
In his remarks to Congress last night at the opening of its ordinary sessions for this year President Milei announced that he was pressing on with what he sees as reforms even though his mega-decree is bogged down in the courts and he had to withdraw his omnibus bill because he couldn’t find the votes to pass it. His message to the assembled deputies and senators was simple, he’s cracking the fuck on and if he can´t get the measures he wants approved then he’s going to enact them by decree and through administrative decisions.
In return for their cooperation in approving his omnibus law and not overturning his mega-decree, the President proposed that governors join him in Córdoba on May 25 - the anniversary of the events that led to the founding of the modern Argentine state - to sign a “May Pact” consisting of the following points. Let’s look at them one by one.
